6.3 'Cold site' Selection and Equipping

It is the task of the Back to Base Team to assess the seriousness of the disaster, immediately after it has occurred and to determine when the site will be ready for re-use.

If the disaster site is not expected to be ready within approximately six weeks, then the back to base team will select a cold site. If possible, this site should be ready for general use, with services already connected. It should be big enough to accommodate most of the staff, so that a near-full range of services may be offered when the cold site becomes operational.

The Back to Base Team should set up and manage a project to prepare the cold site for use by the company until permanent accommodation is ready.
